Mourayan was found to be mildly lame after the Mackinngon Stakes but has been passed to accept for the Melbourne Cup field

The Lloyd Williams-owned Mourayan was found to be “mildly lame” but “passed suitable to accept” for Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup after his second in Saturday’s Group I Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.

Mourayan carried 59kg in the Mackinnon Stakes and will drop to 53.5kg for the Cup.

Connections of Booming and Tactic  have indicated their intentions not to accept for the Cup.

Those withdrawals place the Brian Ellison-trained Saptapadi in the prized 24th position in the order of entry for the Melbourne Cup with Luca Cumani’s 2008 Melbourne Cup runner-up Bauer in 25th.

The final acceptances will be taken following the last race at Flemington and the field announced at 6pm (EST).
