Moroney Trails His Spring talent

Trainer Mike Moroney’s Sabrage will make his racing debut at Caulfield tomorrow.

The two-year-old Charge Forward colt, who was a $200,000 yearling, is one of Moroney’s earliest spring carnival hopes.

Moroney is very happy with Sabrage’s progress.

“He’s a lovely type of colt,” Moroney said.

“He’s won a jump out at Werribee and looked a little bit new.

“When he got to the front he gawked around and did a little bit wrong.”

Moroney will run Sabrage in the 1,200 metre Swettenham Stud Handicap tomorrow but is confident that the young colt will look for further in the future.

“He’s a horse that the further they go the better he is going to be,” Moroney said.

The trainer is hoping Sabrage will be able to take advantage of the inside barrier he has drawn for the race.

“Just whether he can use that one barrier is going to be a bit of a question mark tomorrow,” Moroney said.

“But he’s a really nice horse and he’s one of the ones we like for the spring.

“He does possess a fair bit of talent.”

Moroney anticipates that Sabrage will be sent out for a spell following tomorrow’s run.

“We’re going to give him this run and then possibly give him a break,” Moroney said.
