Yesterday’s Songs scored a dominant five and a half lengths victory in his last race start at Sandown and trainer Michael Moroney is excited to see the talented gelding back at the races in the Myrtle Lineham Centenary Plateat Caulfield on Saturday.

Yesterday’s Songs made his racing debut with a fast-finishing third behind Street Allure in the Yalumba Plate (1100m) at Bendigo on May 22 before he scored his maiden race win with a dominant performance in the McDowell Elsternwick Maiden (1300m) at Sandown on June 11.

Moroney revealed that Yesterday’s Songs had suffered a minor setback after his last start win, but told Racing Ahead that the Henrythenavigator gelding is in excellent condition heading into the Myrtle Lineham Centenary Plate this weekend.

“He is going terrific,” Moroney said.

“He had a little bit of a hiccup, but luckily it was only a 12 hour thing and we caught it just as it hit him.

“We were able to treat him and get on top of it straight away and his blood pitcher is good.

“He is one of those horses that every time he steps onto the track he is good watching, even in trackwork.

“He just looks like he has real ability and it will be good to see him back at the races.”

Yesterday’s Song was settled at the tail of the field when he made his racing debut at Bendigo and Moroney said that he will be instructing jockey Glen Boss to settle the three-year-old towards the tail of the field this weekend when he jumps from barrier ten.

“He will probably have to go back a little bit,” Moroney said.

“When we had him here in jump outs, Steve Arnold rode him a couple of times and he was just worried that he was going to get a bit chargy.

“We have taught him to relax a bit more than go forward and I think that is going to be his racing pattern mainly because I think that if he did get forward and got going he would over race a bit.”

Moroney is yet to decide where Yesteday’s Songs will have his next race start, but he said he will give the rising four-year-old the chance to progress as far as possible during his preparation.

Yesterday’s Song ($3.20) is currently a narrow favourite in the 2014 Myrtle Lineham Centenary Plate betting market at Ladbrokes Australia from Pyrrolic ($3.70) and Baron Archer ($4.60).
