Moriarty is still chasing a maiden Group 1 win after nine starts at the highest level of racing, but stamped himself as the punters elect for the Kingston Town Classic with a fast-finishing third behind Elite Belle in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on November 22.
Disposition had no luck during the 2014 Kingston Town Classic barrier draw and will jump from barrier 13 once the emergencies are removed from the field, but is still on the second line of betting at a quote of $6.50.
The Reset gelding started his racing career with four race wins before he was upset by Rommel in the Group 2 Western Australian Guineas (1600m) at Ascot on Super Saturday, but punters are confident that the three-year-old can record a maiden win at Group 1 level this weekend.
Elite Belle has been one of the biggest drifters in Kingston Town Classic betting in the past week and is now out to a quote of $7.50 to join Old Comrade (2001), Modem (2004) and Sniper’s Bullet (2009) as recent horses to have completed the Railway Stakes/Kingston Town Classic double.
The Canny Lad mare finished sixth behind Ihtsahymn in the Kingston Town Classic last year, but won over this track and distance when she took out the Listed La Trice Classic (1800m) at Ascot on New Year’s Day.
Balmont Girl hit the line strongly to finish second behind Elite Belle in the Railway Stakes and is also available at a quote of $7.50 to take out the 2014 Kingston Town Classic.
The daughter of Balmont has already won the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) this preparation and the step-up in trip will be no issue for the four-year-old, who won the Group 3 Western Australian Oaks (2400m) at Ascot in March.
The only other horse available at single figure odds in 2014 Kingston Town Classic betting markets is Western Australian Guineas winner Rommel ($9).
Six of the last 19 Western Australian Guineas winner to contest the Kingston Town Classic have gone on to win the race, including Ihtsahymn last year, but Rommel is sure to need plenty of luck after he drew the extreme outside gate for the Group 1 event.
There has been a sprinkling of support in 2014 Kingston Town Classic betting markets for Neville Parnham-trained Bass Strait ($26 into $21) and Group 1 winner Smokin’ Joey ($15 into $14), while first emergency Strike The Stars has been $51 out to $61 and the biggest drifter in betting with Ladbrokes Australia.
