More Than Most’s Chairman’s Stakes Odds Shorten

More Than Most has been backed into 2015 Chairman’s Stakes odds of $7 and has been a clear market mover in betting for the Group 3 event at Sandown this weekend.

More Than Most opened at a quote of $12 when the Chairman’s Stakes betting market was released on Wednesday, but there has been an avalanche of support for the More Than Ready colt after he impressed when fourth in a barrier trial over 800 metres at Sandown on January 13.

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig is expecting More Than Most to perform well on debut in the Chairman’s Stakes, but be told Racing Ahead that the two-year-old may be better placed when he gets the chance to step-up in trip for a race like the Group 2 Henry Bucks Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 14.

“More Than Most is a horse that has ability,” Dabernig said.

“Whether the 1000 metres first-up is a little sharp is the question, but he is a horse with nice ability for people to follow into the future.

“I think that he will run well.

“More Than Most will run well in a 1000, but I think you will see the best of him with a run or two under his belt.

“We will learn a lot out of the race on Saturday, but he is a horse that has just impressed us all the way through and we look forward to seeing him at the track.”

More Than Most will be joined in the 2015 Chairman’s Stakes field by stablemate Haybah, who will be having the sixth race start of her racing career in the Group 3 event at Sandown this weekend.

Haybah failed to fire on debut in the Group 3 Emirates Airline Plate (1000m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day and he performed fairly in both the CRT Whites Wires Plate (1000m) at Moonee Valley on December 12 and the Cactus Imaging Plate (1000m) at the same venue on December 28 before she recorded her maiden race win in the Evergreen Turf Plate (1000m) at Ballarat on January 8.

The More Than Ready filly almost scored an upset victory over the highly-rated Fontiton in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Sandown on January 26 and Dabernig is thrilled with the form of the talented filly.

“Haybah is in excellent form and she has had the benefit of all the race experience,” Dabernig said.

“She puts herself right on the pace and she boxes on very solidly.

“Her form is excellent.”

Haybah is currently available at 2015 Chairman’s Stakes odds of $4.40 with Ladbrokes, while Prompt Return ($3.10) is a clear favourite from Thurlow ($4).
