More Than Great Opportunity At Redemption

More Than Great may not be a name many come up with when they are talking about the great racehorses over the recent years.

Indeed for many people the name may not register an thoughts whatsoever.

However when looking through his race records there is one scalp that stand out above all the rest, More Than Ready is one of only a handful to have beaten So You Think.

That win may have occurred two years ago but it still proves this horse has an abundance of quality.

Unfortunately for him and trainer Brett Dodson since then he’s been hampered by injury.

“He had an operation this time last year, he was going to go to Brisbane but he had an incident in the paddock while he was spelling, it got infected and he had to have a skin graft,” Dodson said.

It’s been a long road of recovery for More Than Great and his absence from the track would have been heart breaking for connections, especially after witnessing the rise to glory of So You Think.

If he can regain his pre-injury form though all the time and investment will be worthwhile, starting with his first up race in Scone later today.

“He races well fresh, it’s been a long time 13 months and I suppose there’s always a question mark after they come back from injury,” he said.

“If he gets back anywhere near his old form though he’ll be in it.”

He’ll run in the Race 6 Scone Quality Handicap and while it’s not a black type event the field is certainly deserving of being one.

Group 1 winner Atomic Force headlines the list of entries alongside Border Rebel meaning it’ll take a huge run to win the event.

If he can perform well though a trip to Brisbane awaits for More Than Great where he will either finally get his chance at Group glory or at the very least some of the smaller Listed events.

“You’ve got to give him every chance, we’ll work out what happens after today but there’s certainly a couple of races he’d be very competitive in up in Brisbane,” he said.
