Glamour mare More Joyous has been confirmed to kick off her spring campaign in the Listed Sheraco Stakes (1200m) on September 15 after impressing in a trial at Randwick this morning.

With regular jockey Nash Rawiller aboard, the six-year-old settled slightly worse than midfield in the 1200-metre hitout before being brought to the middle of the track at the home turn.

From there the eight-time Group 1 winner finished the trial off in comfortable fashion as she went on to win by two lengths ahead of stablemate Tohunga.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse took to twitter to praise the trial form of her stable star and also confirmed that she would begin her Cox Plate campaign at Rosehill on September 15.

“More Joyous was a walk in the park. Nash was over the moon and she will go to the 1200m Sheraco Stakes on the 15th Sept,” Waterhouse tweeted.

While the spring program is not set in stone, it is expected she will then go to the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) on September 29 before a 1600-metre race and the eventual goal of the Cox Plate (2040m) on October 27.

The plan follows a similar formula that worked successfully in the autumn where the races gradually increased in distance as More Joyous finished her four-start campaign unbeaten.

After winning the Group 2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) first-up, the winner of more than $4.2 million in prizemoney scored a Group 1 treble in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m), Doncaster Mile (1600m) and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m).

More Joyous currently sits at the top of the Cox Plate market ($7.00) along with fellow Waterhouse-trained star Pierro.

The only previous attempt the six-year-old has made at the Australasian weight-for-age championship was in 2010 when she finished fifth to So You Think.
