Moral Victory to chase G1 win after Shannon Stakes victory

Trainer Tim Martin will turn his attention to the Group 1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield with Moral Victory who made it two wins on the trot in taking out the Group 2 $175,000 Shannon Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill today.

Moral Victory was well supported on course and firmed in from $7 to start at $5 and finished too strongly for his opposition to record a one and a quarter lengths win over the leader Cape Crusader ($4.80) with Cosmic Cube ($9) running on strongly for third.

“The target will be the Toorak and with his win last start and his win today, he’s on song,” Martin said.

The Group 1 $500,000 Toorak Handicap (1600m) will be run at Caulfield in a fortnight.

Blake Shinn had the $3.30 favourite Hi World travelling just behind the leader coming to the home turn but the five year old couldn’t go on with it in the straight and faded to finish sixth, six and half lengths from the winner.

Winning jockey Jason Collett was happy to sit back in the field and give Moral Victory a trouble free run before coming off the leader’s heel at the 300m and then hit the line hard to record his second Rosehill win in as many starts.

Moral Victory scored at long odds last start in a 1200m Benchmark 85 Handicap at Rosehill but Martin was able to step the seven year old up in class and distance to record back to back wins.
