Moqueen was deserted in Dulcify Quality betting markets in the hours leading up to start and subsequently left as a $21 rank outsider.

Her race already appeared over when jumped only fairly was forced to settle near the tail of the field, but jockey Jason Collett steadied the filly as Hessdalen and Calabasas dictated early terms.

Rounding onto the final straight wide and with plenty to do, the daughter of Uncle Mo immediately responded when asked for an extra effort and charged forward; overcoming the talented field with 100m to run and claiming her maiden race win.

Collett’s ride was arguably the difference in success this afternoon and was thrilled that the filly was still able to perform under difficult racing conditions.

“It was a really good effort,” Collett said after the race.

“Gee she put them away pretty easily in the end there, it was pretty impressive.

“There was a pretty strong wind, so I was just making sure I had cover and I also had a runner on the inside too.

“She was too good.”

Moqueen made her racing debut in a Rosehill minor over 1100m in February this year, but was arguably at her most impressive when she ran on for third in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) second-up.

Having returned to the paddock after running a lacklustre eighth in the Group 3 The Schweppervescence (1400m) on March 29th, Moqueen resumed this time for fifth in the More Than Just Winning Maiden (1100m) on August 3rd, before a luckless run in the Casino Prince @ Vinery BM63 (1200m).

The filly wasn’t able to produce much when she placed third in a Goulbourn maiden race over a mile on September 1st, and finishing fifth in a Canterbury 1550m on September 7th; making this afternoon’s win a particularly impressive result.
