Moore To Deliver Hong Kong A Mighty High

He’s the sole Hong Kong representative still on track for this year’s Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup but he’s certainly a handy one to have.

Mighty High strode into the Werribee quarantine facility yesterday alongside freshly retired stablemate and former champion Silver Grecian.

Mighty High brings with him a very impressive racing record including a last start victory in the Group 1 Chater Cup at Sha Tin.

In that race he defeated Mr Medici, a horse that was fair from disgraced during a Cup’s campaign of his own last year.

Mighty High has long been a consistent performer throughout the top grades at home including in last year’s Hong Kong Vase where he wasn’t too far behind Americain who finished in second.

He is trained by John Moore, the son of well known former Australian jockey George Moore.

Moore has never been afraid to travel his horses internationally and in addition to Australia and Singapore he’s been as far afield as Dubai.

He’s never managed to win a Group 1 event abroad before though with his luck just running out at crucial stages.

In 2008 he saddled up Viva Pataca at the Dubai World Cup meeting in the Sheema Classic and finished a close second.

Back in 2005 he had Super Kid in the Toorak Handicap and came even closer with barely a whisker between him and the winner.

In Singapore as well Moore has also filled the minor placings but never top spot at Group 1 level.

To say he’s hungry to turn that around this time is an understatement for a man who is driven to bring glory to Hong Kong.

“Dad wants to showcase the good horses we have in Hong Kong,” Moore said.

We’re likely to get our first look at Mighty High when he runs first up on September 24th as he builds his first even campaign stretching more than 2400m.

“He’s got a good temperament, the perfect temperament to run out the distance in the Melbourne Cup,” Moore said.

Returning Australian expat Darren Beadman has been tipped to pick up the ride of Mighty High throughout the carnival.
