Moore Destined For Glory In Hong Kong Mile

Irish trainer John Moore’s Destined For Glory will go on towards the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile next month after posting an upset victory in the Jockey Club Mile at Hong Kong’s Sha Tin Racecourse yesterday.

Destined For Glory shocked Moore with his narrow victory over local favourite Ambitious Dragon.

“It was certainly a surprise to win it and especially with my third-string horse,” Moore said.

“But we had a great run while the favourite had a tough run.”

Moore’s other horses in the race, Xtension and Able One, are also chances to run in the prestigious Hong Kong Mile.

“Able One didn’t have the perfect run but I still think he was a bit below par so we’ll see how he pulls up,” Moore said.

“Xtension went terrific – nothing finished the race better.”

Australian jockey Tim Clark rode Destined For Glory in the Jockey Club Mile after originally been booked aboard Able One.

“I was shattered on Thursday when I found out I wouldn’t be on Able One, so there you go,” Clark said.

“Barrier one was a big advantage – especially with the favourite being wide and I could see all that happening during the race.”

Destined For Glory has now won five of his 15 starts and won more than $HK 4.5 million in prize money.
