Moonee Valley Double Music To Moody’s Ears

Trainer Peter Moody is edging closer to 100 winners for the season

Peter Moody is continuing to edge closer to achieving 100 winners for this season after a Moonee Valley double yesterday saw him propelled into the nineties.

One of Moody’s winners was Mid Summer Music, who produced a half-neck victory over Venus World after being caught in what appeared to be a hopeless position after the final turn.

Moody’s assistant trainer, Tom Brideoake, couldn’t believe his eyes when the mare passed the post first.

”She’s just a super consistent and honest and won seven of 11 now but I’m not sure how she won,” Brideoake said.

Jockey Linda Meech partnered Mid Summer Music in her impressive win.

”I don’t know how she did it,” Meech said.

“At the 200 (metres) I thought I’ll protest (against Venus World) and probably get third but when they are winners they just know how to do it.

“It was a freakish win.”

Meech had convinced Moody to keep Mid Summer Music in his stables after she delivered disappointing performances early in her career.

”Peter had decided to keep another horse (who was not showing much ability) and I said. ‘Well if you’re going to keep him you should keep her too’,” she said.

”When she came back and struggled in a trial I thought I’d done the wrong thing, but it’s turned out pretty well.”

Mid Summer Music will now take part in the Victorian Spring Series during the next month.
