After giving the leaders a big start, the two-year-old reeled off a stunning finish to win the Swettenham Stud Dash For Cash by 3 3/4 lengths and break the Sandown 900m track record.

The son of Choisir clocked a sizzling time of 49.3 seconds in the dominant performance, earning plenty of praise from jockey Luke Nolen.

“He’s got real talent…he’s a very nice colt and does everything right,” Nolen told media after the race.

“He’s got a pretty good racing style, he’s got nice ability and he’s got a wonderful temperament to tie it all in.”

Il Cavallo is a three-quarter brother to Starspangledbanner and was retained by Tony and and Desleigh Santic after he was passed in short of his $250,000 reserve at last year’s Inglis Easter yearling sales.

The exciting prospect first came on to the scene when winning a trial at Cranbourne in October.

Immaturity has seen Moody deliberately delay the start to Il Cavallo’s racing career and it worked a treat as he was clearly on song for his debut.
