Moody Not Giving Up On Frankel Showdown

After every Black Caviar win there’s the inevitable talk about which horses will avoid her and the odd couple that will call her out.

Neville Layt did it with Karuta Queen in the spring and Joe Pride is doing the same with Rain Affair this time in.

In a rare occurrence though some big calls have come from the other direction, within the Black Caviar camp itself.

On radio yesterday Peter Moody raised the prospect of taking on Frankel in what would be one of the biggest showdown’s ever.

Given the differences in ideal distance a meeting between the two was previously nothing more than a fantasy.

Now that Black Caviar has shown her worth over 1400m though there’s a chance, albeit slim, the two unbeaten superstars could find some common ground over a mile.

“Do we want to have a crack at Frankel in England to determine who is the best horse in the world once and for all?” Moody said.

The owners are certainly on board should the opportunity ever present itself, senior part owner Neil Werrett previously saying they wouldn’t ‘shirk the issue’ of facing Frankel.

Of course this is all just speculation at the moment, Black Caviar would still need to find the extra ground and given the lacklustre tempo of the CF Orr Stakes it probably wasn’t even a genuine test over 1400m.

Frankel too would need to come back in trip with his races more often than not around the 2000m plus mark.

At the very least we know Black Caviar will be in the UK this year so if the cards fall in the right place perhaps the world’s ultimate match race is a possibility after all.
