Peter Moody is confident that classy imported galloper Lidari is a winning chance in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday, if he relaxes during the run.

Lidari stamped himself as a horse to watch with a narrow victory in the BMW Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday and Moody told Racing Ahead  he has been impressed with how the four-year-old has come through the race but wants to see him relax in another race before he is ready to stamp him a genuine 2013 Spring Racing Carnival contender.

“He has continued to please at home,” Moody said on RSN.

“He seems to be settling more and more in his work and I am just hoping that he continues to do that in his races.

“That is the key to his chances, he just needs to learn how to relax and we have continued to work on that.

“From the one gate tomorrow he isn’t going to have any trouble finding cover, I can see him sitting four or five pairs back on the rails, and I just hope that he puts his head on his chest.

“He is going to need luck from there but the main thing for tomorrow is that I just want to see him relax.”

Lidari was included in the first acceptances for the Caulfield Cup (2400m) and Cox Plate (2040m), which were released earlier this week, and has been nominated for the Epsom Handicap (1600m) and Melbourne Cup (3200m) but Moody said he is yet to make a decision on what will be the major target for the son of Acclamation.

“It is just a race by race thing with him,” the leading trainer said.

“He is in the big handicaps and the Cox Plate and everything in between.”

Moody is chasing his first ever victory in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes this weekend.
