Money For Winx In Cox Plate Betting

Winx has been the best-backed horse in 2015 Cox Plate betting and the star mare is now into $6.50 to take out the Group 1 event at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Winx opened at a quote of $7.50 when the 2015 Cox Plate field was released on Tuesday morning, but there has been plenty of support for the star mare and she is now on the third line of betting behind Highland Reel ($5) and Criterion ($6.50).

The Street Cry mare stamped herself as a horse to follow when she took out the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on September 6 last year and she went on to finish second behind First Seal in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m), but she has gone to another level in 2015.

Winx finished second behind Gust Of Wind in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick on April 11 before she went to Queensland and claimed a remarkable fast-finishing win in the Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) at Caloundra on May 16 and she was far too good for her rivals in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Doomben on May 30.

She returned to the races in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 12 and she produced another blistering late sectional to make it three wins on the trot before she overcame a nasty check at the top of the straight to record a dominant win in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick on October 3.

Trainer Chris Waller has been absolutely thrilled with the recent form of Winx and he is hopeful that the four-year-old can stamp herself as a genuine weight-for-age star with a win in the 2015 Cox Plate.

“She has won her last four, she has not just won them, she has dead set won them with authority,” Waller said.

“She has come back a better horse and Hugh pointed out that her good track form is clearly superior to her wet track form.

“She is an Oaks winner over 2200 metres and she was second in an Australian Oaks over 2400 metres on a bog track.

“She is a dead set superstar.

“Let’s hope that she can do it at weight-for-age level over 2040 metres on Saturday.”

There has also been money in Cox Plate betting for The Cleaner ($21 into $19) and Hartnell ($17 into $16), while Mourinho ($31 out to $26), Pornichet ($31 out to $41), Arod ($8 out to $8.50) and Complacent ($17 out to $19) have all been on the drift.

You can score the best Cox Plate odds for Winx or any other runner in the Cox Plate field with Ladbrokes, who are offering Best Tote or Starting Price +20% on every race at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
