Money For Griante In Regal Roller Stakes

Griante has been backed into 2015 Regal Roller Stakes odds of $8.50 and she has been a clear market mover in the betting markets for the Listed event that will be at Caulfield on Saturday.

Griante opened at a quote of $12 when the Regal Roller Stakes field was released earlier in the week and there has been consistent support for the talented mare and she is now into $8.50 to make a winning return to racing.

The Good Journey mare has been a consistent sprinter for the past 12 months, but she went to another level during her autumn campaign.

Griante started her 2015 Melbourne Festival Of Racing campaign with a fourth place finish in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 14 and she returned to winning form with a tough win in the Group 3 Wenona Girl Quality (1200m) at Royal Randwick on March 7.

The five-year-old made her debut at the highest level of racing in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) and she produced the best performance of her career to finish third behind Lucky Hussler and Vain Queen before she finished her campaign with a close second behind Avoid Lightning in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on April 11.

While Griante has been the best-backed runner in the 2015 Regal Roller Stakes betting market with Ladbrokes, last start winner Yesterday’s Songs remains on top of betting at a quote of $5.50.

Yesterday’s Songs has not been seen at the races since he record a win in a heat of the Winter Championship Series at Flemington on June 13 and trainer Mike Moroney is eyeing the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m), Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) and Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) with the Henrythenavigator gelding.

One of the most interesting runners in the 2015 Regal Roller Stakes field is former Kiwi-trained mare Sardaaj, who will be making her Australian racing debut in the Listed event this afternoon and is currently available at a quote of $6.50.

The Iffraaj mare finished second behind Gaultier in her final race start in New Zealand in the Group 1 Levin Classic (1600m) at Trentham on January 17 and she was previously placed in the Group 2 Eight Carat Classic (1600m) at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

Top weight Fast ‘N’ Rocking ($9), Australian Guineas placegetter Stratum Star ($8.50), Mick Price-trained Pressing ($7.50) and Godolphin-owned Barbed ($9) are the only other horses available at single figure Regal Roller Stakes odds.
