Money For Angelic Light In Winterbottom Stakes Betting

Angelic Light is now into Winterbottom Stakes odds of $2.90 and is a clear favourite to record a maiden win at the highest level of racing in the Group 1 event at Ascot this afternoon.

Angelic Light opened at a quote of $3 when the Winterbottom Stakes field was released on Monday afternoon and the Holy Roman Emperor mare has remained steady at that quote throughout the week, but there has been plenty of money for the five-year-old this morning and she is into a price of $2.90.

Trainer Robbie Griffiths has been thrilled with the form that Angelic Light has shown during her 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign, highlighted by a win in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) and a close second in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m), and he told Racing Ahead yesterday that his star mare had given every indication that she had handled the lengthy trip to Perth ahead of the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).

“The biggest concern when you travel any horse is if they are going to hold their form and they settle into the surroundings so they can run up to what they have seen in recent times and all the indicators that we have seen in how she looks and her mannerisms are positive,” Griffiths said.

“She did a bit of pace work yesterday and looked great and if she holds the type of form that we are reading on the form card in Melbourne then it is going to hold her in good stead in this.

“We are very happy.”

Angelic Light was one of the big winners of the 2014 Winterbottom Stakes barrier draw on Tuesday night and is set to get an ideal run into the race from barrier five.

Griffiths said that he will not be giving jockey Damien Oliver any firm instructions ahead of the Winterbottom Stakes, but he is confident that the leading hoop can have Angelic Light in an ideal position and give her the best possible chance to score a maiden win at Group 1 level.

“I am very pleased with the barrier draw because she is a mare that can utilize good starting stalls and it looks as though she will get a good run,” Griffiths said.

“I haven’t had any discussion with Damien, but he knows how to ride her and where he wants to be, so he will do his homework and I’ll leave it up to him.

“I would imagine she would be just behind the speed and be in all the right positions and hopefully get the breaks.”

There has also been a sprinkling of support for Moment Of Change and he is into Winterbottom Stakes odds of $4.20, while Godolphin entire Sidestep is on the third line of betting at a quote of $7.
