Peter Moody’s latest Group 1 winner Moment Of Change will be aimed towards an ambitious first up tilt at the Group 1 $1m Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 9.

Moment Of Change is nearing the end of an eight week water-walking program and Slade Syndicate Manager Rob Slade said that Moody would prepare the four year old first up for the feature sprint.

“That is Peter’s plan. There are very few suitable 1200 metre races around for him then, so we’ll go for the biggest one,” Slade said.

Moment Of Change was sent to the spelling paddock after developing a joint problem prior to the running of the Group 1 $400,000 David Jones Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield on October 13 following a stunning win in the Group 1 $400,000 Clamms Seafood Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on September 30.

Slade said that Moment Of Change has been given the all clear following scans to his injured joint and will return to Moody’s Caulfield stable next week to prepare for the Autumn Carnival.

The lightly raced four year old will return to Sydney after the Newmarket and chase more Group 1 glory leading up to a start in the Group 1 $2m Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on April 20.

Moody has picked out the Group 1 $350,000 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill on March 23 and the Group 1 $400,000 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on April 6 to begin his Sydney campaign.

Moment Of Change’s win in the  Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes provided Moody with a rare Group 1 win in the Spring which failed to produce the usual flurry of top grade wins for the leading trainer.
