Moment Of Change Draws 6 for Goodwood

Moment Of Change’s grip on the Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) has become even stronger after the favourite drew barrier six for Saturday’s $500,000 sprint at Morphetville.

The Peter Moody-trained sprinter is resuming from a brief freshen-up following a Canterbury Stakes failure in March and appears set to bounce back when returning to his more preferred anti-clockwise direction.

Before being beaten nine lengths by Pierro in the Canterbury he boldly carried 56.5kg for a narrow second in the Newmarket Handicap and was runner-up to superstar stablemate Black Caviar in the Lightning Stakes.

Moment Of Change is the clear standout in the 18-horse Goodwood field but will still have to overcome some in-form gallopers including Platelet and General Truce.

Four-year-old mare Platelet is aiming to claim back-to-back Group 1s after scoring the biggest win of her career in the Robert Sangster Stakes last month.

The consistent mare has drawn favourably in barrier five, two spots wider than Ricky Maund’s gelding General Truce (5).

General Truce rises in grade but is chasing a third straight win after claiming traditional Goodwood lead-up the DC McKay Stakes on April 27.

It is the son of Brief Truce’s first step up to top tier racing since he finished eighth in the 2011 Oakleigh Plate.

Also faring well at the barrier draw was Queensland gelding Facile Tigre (8) who was second to Mrs Onassis in the Oakleigh Plate in February.

There was a school of thought he would be joined in the field by fellow Queenslander and Oakleigh Plate third placegetter Spirit Of Boom but trainer Tony Gollan has elected to keep him at home for the BTC Cup.
