Moir Stakes for She Will Reign on way to The Everest

Trainer Gary Portelli has sent She Will Reign straight to the paddock following her sensational win in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill last Saturday.

The Warwick Farm trainer is already planning the Spring Carnival program for his new stable star and has his sights set on gaining a slot for the $10 million 1200m ‘The Everest’ that the Australian Turf Club are planning to run at Randwick during the Spring Carnival.

To gain one of the twelve slots in ‘The Everest’, connections or interested parties will have to fork out $600,000 to commit for a place for the initial three years.

Portelli said that Darby Racing, who organised the syndications of She Will Reign who is raced by a large group of owners, have already started negotiating to secure a slot in ‘The Everest’.

“We will work out a program but at this stage she should get a spot in The Everest,” Portelli told racing.com.

“The Darby boys will obviously have some negotiations to do now, which is probably half the fun, and the battle.”

“I’m glad that is their problem, there are a lot of owners in the horse that they will need to get to agree on the deal, but I think we are in a good position, I think she is a good card if you were to get her.

“Just quickly looking at the program this morning, I thought the Moir Stakes would be a perfect starting point, a 1000m around The Valley, 50kg on her back.

“It would be perfect and then we could go to 1200m second-up.”

She Will Reign has plenty of money in the bank and her account balance increased to $2,555,150 with the $2 million Golden Slipper winning cheque.

Portelli reported that She Will Reign has pulled up in great style after her historic win but he is not tempted to chase the two year old Triple Crown and said the Manhattan Rain filly deserves a good break.

“She has pulled up very well, she is a very high-class filly, her recovery from every race has been unbelievable all the way through and that is why it has been easy enough to train her,” Portelli said.

“She needs to go for a break now, she has had a long preparation,” he said.

“She was up a long time ago, back to when she won the Inglis race, most horses that is probably their grand final, she had a 12-day break, we aimed at the Slipper and we got that done, there is no thought of going on.

After She Will Reign won the Restricted Listed $500,000 Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Randwick on December 17, she had a short break before commencing her Golden Slipper campaign that saw he win the Group 2 $250,000 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on February 18.

She Will Reign then suffered her first defeat when second to Frolic in the Group 2 $300,000 Affinity Shopping Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 4 but was then able to reverse the result with the Michael Freedman trained filly in the Golden Slipper.

In an early market order for ‘The Everest’ at Ladbrokes.com.au, She Will Reign is marked at $11 behind Chautauqua at $6, Astern at $7 and the might mare Winx at $8.
