Trainer Chris Waller’s three fillies Dawn Wall, Invincibella and Oklahoma Girl came up with mixed results in the barrier draw for the Group 2 $175,000 The Magic Millions Roses (2000m) at Doomben on Saturday.
Kerrin McEvoy’s mount Invincibella drew the best of the trio at barrier two in the final sixteen horse field while Dawn Wall (Hugh Bowman) and Oklahoma Girl (James Doyle) drew barriers twelve and thirteen respectively.
Waller has Dawn Wall peaking at the right time as she heads towards the Group 1 $500,000 Treasury Brisbane Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 3 and the Fastnet Rock filly lines up in The Roses on the back a win in the Listed $125,000 Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) at the Gold Coast on May 6.
Invincibella ran fourth to Dawn Wall in the Bracelett while Oklahoma Girl was a last start third in an 1800m 3yo BenchMark Handicap at Rosehill on the same day.
Darren Weir’s highly rated filly Kenedna has drawn in close at barrier four with John Allen retaining the mount after the pair combined for a second to the Waller trained Egg Tart in the Group 1 $400,000 Schweppes Oaks (registered as Australasian Oaks) (2000m) at Morphettville on May 6.
Kenedna was the winner of her two previous starts at Morphettville in the Listed $110,000 See South Australia Laelia Stakes (1600m) on April 8 and in the Group 3 $120,000 Schweppervescence Stakes (Registered as Auraria Stakes) (1800m) on April 22.
Eagle Farm trainer Steven O’Dea has Candika ready to find herself mixing it with the placegetters in The Roses following her third to Dawn Wall in the Bracelet which came on the back of a win in the Listed $100,000 Princess Stakes (1600m) at Doomben on April 22.
Candika has drawn in the middle of the pack at barrier eight with Damian Browne taking hold of the reins again.
Co-trainers Peter and Paul Snowden are hoping there Brisbane Winter Carnival winning form continues with The Pinnacle in The Roses after their brilliant sprinter Redzel led all of the way to win the Group 1 $700,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1200m) at Doomben last Saturday.
The Pinnacle has drawn nicely at barrier five with Corey Brown retaining the mount and the So You Think filly showed she was on track for a good Winter campaign with a solid second to Dawn Wall at the Gold Coast.
