Trainer Liam Birchley has targeted next week’s Group 2 $250,000 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and expects further improvement from the Sequalo filly.

Birchley was at the Scone meeting celebrating the win of his stayer Trajet who took out the first race there when Missy Longstocking stuck her head out to beat longshot Hallside Rose in the last few strides.

Winning rider Damian Browne was wanting to give Missy Longstocking an easy a run as possible knowing that she had to back up next week, but when he knew he had a fight on his hand, the short priced favourite found enough to win under hard riding.

Missy Longstocking didn’t have any favours through the race either with Brown caught three wide for most of the race.

“I thought she was going to win pretty easy half way down the straight, that other filly fought you know and made her work the last little bit,” Browne said.

“I didn’t really want to get hold up on the fence. I was three wide but I had cover. She relaxed beautifully and gave me a lovely ride.”

Browne is reasonably confident that Miss Longstocking will handle the extra distance of the Sires’ Produce, but admitted that she will have to have everything go her way.

“Obviously she’s going to have to have a pretty soft run to get that sort of trip but she’s got all heart and that’s a big thing,” Browne said.

Punters had their hearts in their mouths as the $1.65 favourite scrambled home by a nose over $41 chance Hallside Rose with $26 shot Enquare two lengths away in third spot.
