Miss Rose De Lago Fit for PB Lawrence Stakes

Trainer Danny O’Brien is confident that classy mare Miss Rose De Lago is primed for a strong first-up performance in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

A former Perth galloper, Miss Rose De Lago has posted a commendable eight wins and seven minors through twenty-eight career starts to date but has undoubtedly stepped up in class since transferring to O’Brien’s Flemington stables prior to her 2015 campaign.

O’Brien told Racing Ahead that he has been pleased with the condition taken by the mare in her time away from racing since a forgettable run for ninth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on April 9th, and is confident she will be given every opportunity in the PB Lawrence Stakes.

“She’s going particularly well,” O’Brien said.

“She had a good autumn – obviously won the Sunline Group 2 there at Moonee Valley and went to Randwick in great order, but just did not handle the track.

“She had a nice little break and it very forward. She went to Pakenham for a trial on the synthetic about three weeks ago and she trialled here on the course proper two weeks ago.

“She’s done more than enough work, she usually runs very well fresh and she’s got a great affinity for Caulfield, so there’s plenty to like about her chances tomorrow.

“Obviously she’s drawn well and I’m sure everyone is aware of how The Cleaner runs his races, so I would imagine we’ll end up on the back of The Cleaner as I don’t think we have the speed to go with him.

“If that happens we’re going to get a really nice run into the race and we should get every opportunity to be in the finish.”

Damien Oliver has elected to take the ride on Miss Rose De Lago in the PB Lawrence Stakes, and O’Brien believes the hoop’s confidence could mean the difference in success.

“Damien’s a fairly good judge and he rode Miss Rose De Lago at Pakenham in the jump out there and he was very pleased with her,” he said.

“He chose her as his mount in the race, so that gives us a bit of confidence as well.

“She’s a terribly genuine mare and in the right conditions she always runs well, and I certainly think she has the right conditions tomorrow.”

Miss Rose De Lago is currently available at 2016 PB Lawrence Stakes odds of $7 with Ladbrokes Australia.
