Miss Gunpowder better prepared for Tattersall’s Tiara

A full two weeks of normal training will see Miss Gunpowder better prepared for her assignment in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Lindsay Park co-trainer David Hayes admits that Miss Gunpowder had an interrupted preparation before winning the Listed $100,000 Makers Mark Hinkler Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on June 10.

“I thought that win was an outstanding effort. She didn’t win by much, but it was a big win as she had to overcome obstacles which most horses don’t face,” Hayes told the Herald Sun.

“She took a week to recover from the sale and as a result I couldn’t work her. That was also her first run in the clockwise direction.”

“Now I’ve had a full two weeks of normal training into her on her other leg.”

“I know it’s a harder race, but she’s going to be a much better horse this time.”

Miss Gunpowder is on the way to repaying the $700,000 that her new owners, headed by Werret Bloodstock, paid for her at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sales at the end of May when she collected the $64,000 winner’s cheque after holding on to beat Too Good To Refuse in the Hinkler Handicap.

Luke Nolen takes over from Craig Williams on Miss Gunpowder who should get another nice run from barrier five if all the emergencies fail to gain a start and an improving soft 5 rated track will also be in her favour.

Miss Gunpowder was having her first start in the clockwise way of racing in the Hinkler Handicap after racing fifteen times in Melbourne and Adelaide for five previous wins.

The Pendragon mare is stepping up sharply in class in the Tattersall’s Tiara and is rated a $12 chance at Ladbrokes.com.au behind the $3.20 favourite In Her Time who is coming off a last start second to Impending in the Group 1 $1.5m Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on June 10.

On the second line of betting at $6.50 is the last start Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes winner Prompt Response ahead of Bonny O’Reilly and Eckstein who sit alongside of each other at $9.50.
