The Australian Turf Club has keep the nomination deadline open until 11am, Sydney time, on Tuesday February 16 after only nine mares were entered for the Group 2 feature.

The John Thompson trained First Seal is ready to resume following a foot operation that kept her out of last year’s Spring Carnival and the 2014 Group 1 Flight Stakes winner will be having her first run since finishing sixth to Amanpour in the Group 1 $1m Cellarbrations Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 11, the second day of the 2015 ‘The Championships’.

“She is very well and everything has gone right with her preparation,” Thompson told AAP.

“I’m looking forward to getting her back to the races.”

Catkins is set to defend her Millie Fox Stakes title after claiming the trophy last year and is one of four mares trainer Chris Waller has nominated, the other three are Amicus, Ballet Suite and Telepathic.

Catkins has a great first up record with seven wins and a second from nine attempts and the popular grey mare is primed for another bold first up performance after winning an 1100m Warwick Farm barrier trial on February 8.

2014 Thousand Guineas winner Amicus scored a brilliant first up win in the Group 2 $175,000 NSW Thoroughbred Breeders NSW Breeders Classic (1200m) at Randwick on February 6 but Waller has hinted that he might keep her at home another week.

Ballet Suite hasn’t raced since eighth to Solicit in the Group 3 $150,000 Le Pine Funerals Summoned Stakes (1500m) at Sandown on November 14 while Telepathic has had a short freshen up since finishing fourth to Destiny’s Kiss in the Listed $150,000 Gosford Quarries Gosford Gold Cup (2100m) at Gosford on January 8.

Also among the Millie Fox Stakes nominations are the Kris Lees trained Press Report and Team Snowden’s I’ve Got The Looks who finished second and third behind Amicus in the NSW Breeders Classic.
