Trainer Sam Kavanagh revealed that Midsummer Sun will head to the Mornington Cup (2400m) in February after his impressive victory in the Listed Gosford Cup (2100m) yesterday afternoon.

Midsummer Sun was given a gem of a ride by jockey Glyn Schofield, with the veteran jockey positioning the imported stayer just off the pace, and looked as though he was going to race away to record a dominant victory when he hit the front coming around the turn.
Chris Waller-trained Brigantin was briefly blocked for a run at the top of the straight and flew home after finding clear running, but was unable to catch Midsummer Sun who recorded his third victory since arriving in Australia.
Midsummer Sun was having the fifth start of his summer campaign, after performing well in the Listed Visit Victoria Plate (1800m), Group 2 Zipping Classic (2000m) and Group 3 Summer Cup (2000m), and Kavanagh confirmed after the race that the Monsun gelding will continue his campaign.
The six-year-old is likely to have his next race start in the Listed Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m) at Caulfield on February before chasing ballot-exempt entry into the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) when he contests the Listed Mornington Cup on February 12.
Brigantin was having just his second race start since joining the stable of Waller and produced his best performance since he made his racing debut in Australia with a third place finish in the 2012 Group 3 Geelong Cup (2400m).
The Cozzene entire missed out on a start in the 2012 Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) and failed to fire during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival under the care of Pat Carey; with his seventh place finish in the Geelong Cup (2400m) his best performance.
Joseph Pride-trained Destiny’s Kiss was well backed in the lead-up to the Gosford Cup, but could finish no better than third and has now recorded three straight defeats after starting as favourite.
Destiny’s Kiss was well-backed to take out the Summer Cup at Randwick on Boxing Day but finished a narrow third and rounded out the placings again, as an almost odds-on favourite, in the Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2000m) at the same venue on New Year’s Day.
The 2013 Gosford Cup was won by Moriarty who went on to win the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm and the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick before finishing a credible third in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day.
