Metallic Crown has been backed into 2015 Ming Dynasty Quality odds of $7, but trainer Chris Waller admits that the promising colt faces the toughest test of his career to date in the Group 3 event at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Metallic Crown made his racing debut with a third place finish behind Sebring Sun in a maiden at Canterbury on July 29 and he was beaten by the highly-rated Devil Hawk in the Schweppes Maiden Plate (1250m) at Canterbury on August 12 before he claimed his maiden race in the Place Multi Handicap (1300m) at Warwick Farm on August 26.
Waller believes that Metallic Crown will get conditions to suit in the 2015 Ming Dynasty Quality and he although he admits the Northern Meteor colt will face a tough assignment, he is not ruling him out of the winning chances.
“He finally broke through for his maiden with a three length win at Warwick Farm about ten days ago,” Waller said.
“We are getting a bit of rain in Sydney this morning and I think the conditions will suit him.
“It is a big step-up from a maiden, but don’t discount him and his chances.
“We are very happy.”
Waller is well represented across the Royal Randwick card tomorrow, highlighted by his 11 runners in the Chelmsford Stakes field, and he also has two runners in the Tramway Stakes field in the form of Strawberry Boy and Flamingo Star.
Waller has Group 1 assignments for both Strawberry Boy and Flamingo Star in the 2015 Spring Racing Carnival, but he still expects both gallopers to perform well in the Tramway Stakes this weekend.
“Strawberry Boy did a good job last prep in Queensland and we will hopefully get him to Melbourne for the Rupert Clarke and perhaps the Toorak,” Waller said.
“This is a starting point for him, but he is better on a better track.
“Flamingo Star is a horse that we have identified as a lightweight chance in the Epsom, so he is starting out tomorrow and he is a horse to follow out to the Epsom.”
Strawberry Boy has drifted from 2015 Tramway Stakes odds of $13 out to $15 since the rain hit Sydney this morning, while Flamingo Star has been backed from $14 into $11 in the betting market with Ladbrokes.
