2. Seville ($18)

Seville was on track for the 2012 Melbourne Cup when he flew home late to finish second behind Green Moon in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) but an injury ruled him out of the remainder of the spring racing carnival.
He has returned as an even better horse this campaign and scored his ever Group 1 victory in The Metropolitan (2400m) before finishing a credible seventh in the Cox Plate (2040m) – a race that was not run to suit.
Seville’s run in the Cox Plate was similar to that of Green Moon in last year’s race and Nick Williams rates the Galileo entire as his best chance in the race.
“I think he is the top chance, Seville,” Williams said.
“We all saw what he did in the Turnbull Stakes last year when he got behind Green Moon and should have won the race and this year he has won the Metropolitan, he run fantastically in the Cox Plate, he’s had the perfect preparation.”
“Absolutely every box is ticked with that horse and I’m sure he is going to run a mighty race on Tuesday.”
3. Tres Blue ($26)
Tres Blue has been a big drifter in 2013 Melbourne Cup betting markets since the barrier draw was conducted on Saturday but looks like one of the best each-way bets in the field.
The Anabaa Blue will have just 51kg on his back despite the fact that his form in Europe this season has been stellar; finishing second in the German Derby before winning the Group 3 Prix De Reux (2500m) and Group 2 Grand Prix De Deauville (2500m) in France.
Tres Blue has impressed onlookers with his work at the 2013 International Equine Centre at Werribee and trainer Gai Waterhouse has shown that she can get horses ready for the Melbourne Cup on a limited preparation – like she did with Fiorente in 2012.
Jockey Tommy Berry has helped with the preparation of the Northern Hemisphere-trained three-year-old and said that he could not be happier with the entire’s condition heading into the 2013 Melbourne Cup.
“He hasn’t raced over 3200 metres yet but he feels like he will stay all day,” Berry said.
“It’s a very high-pressure race and you have to save everything for the last 200 metres.
“It’s a long way down the straight.
“I believe I am on the right horse to do it, so it makes it a lot easier.”
Fiorente ($7) remains on top of 2013 Melbourne Cup betting markets from Luca Cumani-trained Mount Athos ($10) and Caulfield Cup runner-up Dandino ($12).
