Melbourne Cup Betting Continues to Elude Seismos

A proven performer at the distance on tracks of all integrities this year, Seismos continues to be avoided by punters in Melbourne Cup betting markets for success at Flemington this afternoon; blowing out from opening odds of $31 to currently rest at a quote of $81.

Finishing at the fore of the field on seven of his 25 competitive appearances on track so far and figuring in the minor places on a further five occasions, Seismos began his racing tenure under the guidance of leading German trainer Andreas Wohler, who will saddle Protectionist in the 2014 Melbourne Cup, before transferring to the care of Marco Botti partway through the year.

Stamping his claims as a serious racing contender over his maiden preparation through 2011, the Dalakhani gelding finished second in a minor over 2000m on debut and continued to build in form and class on his way to a strong victory in the Grand Prix De Clairefontaine (2400m) and a credible sixth in the Group 1 Preis Von Europa (2412m) in September, which also figured as his maiden tilt at the highest level of racing.

Claiming back-to-back wins in the Group 3 Le Defi Du Galop (2413m) and Group 3 Hessen-Pokal (2011m) most notably over just three appearances on course in 2012, Seismos undoubtedly hit peak condition during 2013; steadily building to the task in finishing fifth in the Group 2 Preis Der Badischen Unternehmer (2212m) before registering a four length victory in the Group 1 Grosser Pries von Bayern (2413m).

Running second to Novellist in the Group 1 Preis Von Baden (2413m) in September before a trip abroad produced a strong third in the Group 1 Canadian International Stakes (2413m) most notably, the gelding out of Sasuela won a minor over 2300m in Germany first-up this year, and while unable to match the late pace when 10th in the Group 2 Dubai Gold Cup (3200m), has found an excellent rhythm in running sixth in the Group 3 Henry VII Stakes (3290m), fourth in the Group 2 Prix Nieuil (2800m) and winning the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes (2670m) ahead of a classy field including the likes of Red Cadeaux on August 16th.

While failing to fire and fifteenth in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) in his Australian debut on October 18th, Seismos has reportedly progressed well and is searching for the extra distance offered by the 2014 Melbourne Cup.

Confirmed to be partnered by jockey Craig Newitt and allocated the rails draw, the six-year-old remains more than worth consideration for success in Melbourne Cup betting markets at current odds.
