Trainer John McNair is confident his sprinting star Hay List will pass a veterinary examination today and take his place in the Group 1 $400,000 Power Tracker William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley tomorrow night.

McNair notified Racing Victoria deputy chairman of stewards Alan Reardon yesterday to inform him that the six year old had a minor hoof injury.

“John rang to say that Hay List had bruising to his near fore, inside his heel,” Reardon said.

“He said, ‘there won’t be any worries about him running on Friday. I just wanted to let you that he has some bruising’.”

McNair’s farrier has been assisting with the treatment and regular beach sessions at Balnarring have also been on his agenda replacing a scheduled Moonee Valley gallop that was cancelled earlier in the week.

Racing Victoria chairman of stewards Terry Bailey said that RVL chief veterinarian Brian Stewart would inspect Hay List prior to tomorrow night.

Hay List is currently is a short priced favourite for the William Reid at $1.40 coming off a gutsy win in the Group 1 $1m Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m)  at Flemington on March 10 with 58.5kg.

The six year old has been plagued by injury during his illustrious career and NcNair had to call off last year’s Brisbane Winter Carnival campaign early when he developed a life threatening injury which put him out of action for over six months.

Racing Victoria Stewards have notified trainer John Sadler that two of his horses have tested positive to the drug Synephrine which acts as a stimulant on the nervous system.

Deep Cove, a Sandown winner on January 11  and Irish Golfer who won at Werribee on January 29 both showed the presence of the drug in their system.

An inquiry date has not yet been set and Sadler is mystified how the two horses would end up with that drug in their system.

“I’ve never heard of the drug, my vet has never heard of the drug,” he said.

“In this game, it’s Russian roulette. You are guilty until you are proven innocent.”
