Tony McEvoy will line up two of his most promising gallopers at Gawler in South Australia later today.

The trainer is confident Circle Of Trust can win the Kingsford Hotel/Sabois Three-Year-Old Handicap in Race 2 where he will come up against just five other runners.

Circle Of Trust was unlucky to finish fourth on debut in the Betfair Maiden Plate at Morphettville Parks on January 4 after being slowly away from the gates.

The Primus colt struggled under the 57.5 kilogram weight he had been allocated.

“He’s got a lot more speed than he’s shown,” McEvoy said.

“I thought he did a tremendous job getting as close as he did given the weight.

“Provided he doesn’t make any mistakes he should win well today.”

McEvoy will also saddle up four-year-old gelding Protector in Race 7 at Gawler today.

Protector also finished fourth in his last start at Morphettville after being disappointed for a run in the final straight.

“His run was pretty good,” the trainer said.

“He sort of box seated third and fourth they of ran him off his feet a little bit.

“This does look much easier today and with Jake’s (Toeroek) claim I expect him to be very competitive today.”

McEvoy believes Protector has the makings of a city class Saturday horse, however, has been disappointing at previous attempts.

“He tells me at home he’s a Saturday horse but under game day pressure he changes his mind a little bit,” he said.

Luck Of The Irish was also due to run in today’s 1,100 metre Maiden Plate, however McEvoy decided to save him for another day.

“He’s going very well and I just thought it was too awkward around there (Gawler),” McEvoy said.

“There’s plenty of races around so we’ll wait.”

McEvoy has only just returned to his Angaston stables after purchasing a number of horses from the Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.

“We got seven horses from the sales and I was very pleased with what I bought,” he said.

“I was able to purchase the horses I wanted to buy which rarely happens.”

The trainer’s most extravagant purchase was $240,000 on an Exceed And Excel filly.

“The second dam’s a group one winner and the dam’s a four time Group 1 winner,” McEvoy said.
