Hell Or Highwater was seeking a third-consecutive win when she took her place in the Heatherlie Stakes field and she left nothing to chance after jumping well and taking an ideal position in transit alongside early leader Assign.

Jockey Dean Yendall was successfully able to get the horse to switch off and she enjoyed a carefree run across the back straight and around the bend.

Offered a clear racing line upon arriving at the final straight, the Not A Single Doubt mare produced a strong kick with 200m to run and maintained well to the line to beat a fast-finishing Guardini.

Yendall delivered a strong performance aboard Hell Or Highwater in the Heatherlie Stakes and was thrilled with the feel the horse offered up.

“Got her going really well, the Hayes clan,” Yendall said.

“It’s great to have the association with her. I’ve ridden her a few times before with great success.

“Just to win on her is a great thrill and I’m really thankful to David and the owners for having the trust in me in putting me on so quick.”

David Hayes was thrilled with Hell Or Highwater’s win in the Heatherlie Stakes and revealed that a race like the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes might figure as her major campaign target.

“It was so important for her to win a black type race and for her to win one at this level, really franks her value,” Hayes said.

“A fantastic group of guys own her and she’s a really valuable mare now. She races well all winter and is going to keep racing well I think.

“We’ll look at similar races I’d say – maybe the 2000m mares race, the Matriarch during Cup week, but she’s probably going to be weighted out of mares’ race. She might have to run in the Coongey, or something like that.”

Hell Or Highwater has posted eight wins and a further five minors, through only twenty-three career starts to date.
