Trainer Mick Price has confirmed that Samaready will have her next race start in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 25 after she recorded her second win at Group 1 level in the Moir Stakes (1200m) on Friday night.

Samaready went into the Moir Stakes on the back of an impressive first-up win in Theshark.com.au Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield, after missing twelve months of racing due to injury, but although he believed the classy mare was in good condition Price admitted that he was surprised by the dominance of the victory.
“I certainly couldn’t have told you that she would do what she did,” Price said on RSN.
“She went to Moonee Valley on Monday morning and she worked super there and I thought she was in the right zone.
“It was her first try as a four-year-old mare against the bigger, tougher horses but I thought that she presented well in the mounting yard and is more mature.
“It was just a great relief that we can compete against the good horses and be one of them now.”
Price said the daughter of More Than Ready has come out of the Moir Stakes in brilliant condition but he will still give her a month’s break heading into the Manikato Stakes.
“When she blew them away on Friday night at Moonee Valley I thought that we can just look forward to the Manikato now,” Price said.
“She pulled up fantastic but I haven’t got another option for her bar four weeks between runs.
“As a two-year-old she would do something and then come home and sook about it.
“Whereas now she had a hard Friday night but on Saturday morning it was like she hadn’t gone around.
“That will be good for her, she races best with the edge on her and plenty of weight on her, so I am just really looking forward to the Manikato.”
Although the Moir Stakes is generally considered a key lead-up race for the Manikato Stakes; Spinning Hill (2002), Manikato (1982) and Scamanda (1976) are the only horses to have completed the double.
