Maher expecting bold first up run from Jameka in C.F. Orr Stakes

Caulfield trainer Ciaron Maher is expecting a bold first up run from is stable star Jameka in the Group 1 $500,000 Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Jameka’s first up record doesn’t look flash with a second and a third from four attempts, but Maher said that her recent track work has given him the indication that the four year old mare is ready to fire in the weight for age 1400m Group 1 Autumn feature.

“She worked super (on Tuesday), she looked sharp and quickened up over the last 200m,” Maher told Racing.com.

“She is always a great worker, but she does look sharper this time around.”

“I’m really happy with how she’s going in.”

Jameka was a winner over 1400m in her two year old season in the Group 2 $200,000 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Flemington during the 2015 Melbourne Autumn Carnival while all her other wins have been at 2000m plus.

The Myboycharlie mare showed her staying ability with a win in the 2015 Group 1 $1m Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington during the Spring Carnival and then almost twelve months later scored a dominant three lengths win in the Group 1 $3m BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield.

Jameka is one of seventeen horses nominated for the Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes which is looking to be a great contest with at least nine Group 1 winners among the entries.

The Darren Weir trained Black Heart Bart has been installed the early favourite for the Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes at $3.20 with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Malaguerra at $4 and Lucky Hussler at $7 while Jameka is listed as a $13 chance.
