Magnifisio To Take Benefit From Irwin Stakes Run

Magnifisio will make her racing debut on the Eastern seaboard of Australia in the 2015 Irwin Stakes at Morphettville this weekend and trainer Jim Taylor believes that the talented mare will take plenty of benefit from the run heading into the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).

Magnifisio was one of the star performers of the 2015 Perth Summer Racing Carnival and she earnt himself as maiden trip away from Western Australian when she beat the likes of Watermans Bay, Angelic Light, Moment Of Change and Bel Sprinter to win the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on November 22.

The Magnus mare has not been seen at the races since she finished second behind Watermans Bay in the Group 3 Scahill Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on December 6, but she was given two barrier trail starts at Belmont Park on March 9 and March 23 to get her ready for the Irwin Stakes.

Taylor told Sky Racing HQ that Magnifisio is fairly forward for the Group 3 Irwin Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville this Saturday, but he is confident that the five-year-old will take improvement from the run ahead of the 2015 Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville on May 2.

“She flew over on the Wednesday night, spent a day in Melbourne and then she came over by road,” Taylor said.

“This is the first time that she has been away and she took a couple of days to settle on, but she is really good now and she is eating her head off and seems to be enjoying it.

“She is normally better second-up, but I had her pretty fit when she left home and she has a drawn a good barrier.

“I know that there is a good mare in it in Platelet and she will be hard to beat, but she is probably as fit as I have had her first-up and she should go well.

“The Group 1 mares race over her preferable distance looks a good option and whatever she does she should improve on for second-up.”

Magnifisio will take on a number of talented gallopers in the Irwin Stakes as Group 1 winning mare Platelet, last start winner The Messina Nymph, the consistent Riziz, Darren Weir-trained Scarlet Billows and the resuming Karacatis have all been included in the acceptances for the Group 3 event this weekend.
