Capitalist made a huge impression with a debut three lengths win in the Listed $150,000 Newgate Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Randwick on October 3 and he was equally impressive today in winning his trial.

Top Sydney jockey Blake Shinn rode him in the Breeders’ Plate and was aboard again today, settling the Written Tycoon colt behind the two leaders before exploding away in the straight to record a four lengths win.

Peter Snowden, who trains in partnership with his son Paul, said that Capitalist had spelled well and he is very happy with the way he is progressing as he heads towards the $2m Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 9.

All going well Snowden could take the colt to Wyong for the $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2yo Classic (1100m) on December 17 as his lead up to the Magic Milliions.

“He’s come back in very good order and has definitely improved with the break,” Snowden told The Daily Telegraph.

“We’ll use this trial as a guide to see if we start him off in the Wyong Magic Millions or find another race to kick him off in.”

Shinn has been putting a lot of time into riding Capitalist on the tracks and has already gained a high opinion of the colt.

“I’ve been riding him in work and he’s felt really good,” Shinn said.

“As you would expect, he has come back bigger and stronger, more mature and he’s going to be a lovely ride in whatever races Peter and Paul set him for.

“The stable are one of the best at in Australia at preparing two-year-olds and the I think the owners deserve a rap too.

“James Harron has got together a group of owners that have poured a lot of money into purchasing quality racehorses and it’s good to see they have a good one in Capitalist.”

Shinn has ridden many top class two year olds and said that 2008 Golden Slipper winner Sebring was the best after he rode him to win the Group 1 $450,000 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick at his next start and thinks that Capitalist has the potential to enter into that category.

“All the signs are there for Capitalist to be right up there and who knows maybe by the end of the season I will have changed my mind,” Shinn said.

As well as being the $3.50 favourite for the Magic Millions 2yo Classic, Capitalist is also the top pick at $8 for the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 19.
