A lot has been made about sectionals going into Saturday’s Magic Millions Classic on the Gold Coast with Sizzling’s explosive final 600m times receiving the most attention.

One of his rivals on the weekend will be Amorino and trainer Gerald Ryan also believes that the clock doesn’t often tell lies.

He’s not as worried about the final 600m though as he is the overall race pace and that’s where he sees an advantage for his horse.

”I’m a great believer in the value of two-year-old form when they run faster sectional times than the older horses on the same day,” Ryan said.

”When Amorino won at Randwick in October he was 0.26sec faster than the older horses. It’s not often two-year-olds break 1min 4sec for the 1100m and he did it first up.”

Amorino is the third pick of the three clear favourites heading into the race and like the other two he drew favourably.

Amazingly though given all three did so well Amorino actually drifted slightly in the betting to accommodate the top two being wound in, not that it worries Ryan.

“If I had a choice before the draw it would have been to start between four and seven, we got eight and after the emergencies come out he will be in six,” he said.

“It is perfect, he has natural speed and I can imagine he will bounce in the first half dozen and take up a position from there.”

Amorino had his final hit out at Rosehill on Monday before being floated up and Ryan says his numbers looked good once again.

“He ran his last 400m in 23.70 secs and his last 200m in 11.5 secs,” he said.

“His times are good but it is how he has been doing it that is more impressive.”
