Lumosty has Flemington warm ups before Tattersall’s Tiara

Melbourne filly Lumosty will have two Flemington warm up runs before heading to Queensland to run in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Club Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast on June 20.

Caulfield trainer Robert Smerdon has delayed the trip north to the Sunshine State because of the recent wet weather in South East Queensland and will prepare Lumosty for the Queensland Winter Carnival from her own backyard.

Smerdon had considered running Lumosty against the three year olds in the Listed $100,000 Mick Dittman Plate (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday but will instead pit the Fastnet Rock filly against the older horses in the $80,000 All Victorian Sprint Series Heat 2 (1100m) at Flemington.

“She’s heading towards the Tatt’s Tiara so she can run at Flemington on Saturday and again a fortnight later,” Smerdon told AAP.

“To stay here and go down the straight twice suits us better, then she can then go up for the lead-up in the Dane Ripper a fortnight before the Tatt’s Tiara.”

Smerdon will send Lumosty to Brisbane after she runs again at Flemington in a fortnight and give her a final lead up to the Tattersall’s Club Tiara in the Group 2 $300,000 Best Security Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on June 6.

The lightly raced filly created a huge impression during the 2014 Melbourne Spring Carnival and after winning her maiden at Sale by nine lengths went on to start the favourite in the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield before finishing eighth to Amicus.

The Fastnet Rock filly bounced back with a win in the Group 2 $200,000 Drummond Golf Fillies Classic (1600m) at Moonee Valley on October 25 and was sent out the favourite again in the Group 1 $1m Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington but could only manage to finish sixth behind Set Square.

Smerdon then sent the filly for a spell and has prepped her for her return to the racetrack with two barrier trial seconds at Cranbourne.

The prominent Caulfield trainer will have a strong fillies and mares contingent in Brisbane for the Winter Carnival with Politeness to join Lumosty in the Dane Ripper Stakes and the Tattersall’s Club Tiara.

Smerdon has reported that Politeness has pulled up well after finishing sixth to Miracles Of Life in the Group 1 $400,000 William Hill Classic (Registered as Robert Sangster Stakes) (1200m) at Morphettville last Saturday and will head to Brisbane for the two fillies and mares features.

“She’s come through her run in Adelaide well,” Smerdon said.
