Brilliant three year old Lumosty has booked herself a trip to Queensland to try to gain a start in the Stradbroke Handicap after another runaway win in the Listed $120,000 The Straight Six (1200m) at Flemington today.

The Robert Smerdon trained Lumosty scored a three lengths first up win over 1100m down the Flemington straight two weeks ago and and showed her dominance again today to score a two and three quarter lengths win over Le Bonsir ($17) and Reparations ($7.50).
Punters knew that Lumosty would have no trouble stepping up to the 1200m today and sent the Fastnet Rock filly out as the very short priced favouirte at $1.55.
Smerdon will now be trying to win a Group 1 race over the Queensland Winter Carnival and if she doesn’t gain a start in the Group 1 $2m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on June 6 will aim her towards the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Club Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast a fortnight later.
The weights for the Stradbroke Handicap are out on Monday and Smerdon expects her to be well done the list in the order of entry.
Winning rider Dwayne Dunn was full of admiration for Lumosty after completing back to back Flemington wins and said the filly wouldn’t be out of place in one or both of those Group 1 sprint over the Queensland Winter Carnival.
“She deserves to win a Group One race and one of those would not be beyond her,” Dunn said
The field for the Straight Six split in two divisions down the Flemington straight and Dunn elected to go with the outside pack and settle Lumosty in behind the leading bunch.
Coming to the 300m Dunn eased the filly to the outside and once he released the brakes the result was all over.
“She’s a special little thing, when I asked her to lengthen for me she put them away quick,” Dunn said.
“I was able to get a good tow into the race by Reparations and I knew he’d take me as far as I needed to.”
