Luckygray out of luck with Kingston Town draw

Luckygray may have used up all his luck when winning the Group 1 Railway Stakes on protest last start judging by his horror draw in Group 1 $500,000 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot.

The Gino Poletti-trained four-year-old was allotted the outside alley in 14 for Saturday’s feature.

The lightly-raced entire is stepping up to 1800m for the first time and the gate gives him no hiding spots.

The son of sprinting sire Bradbury’s Luck and Damah Lady gave the impression he settles well enough to run it out but has yet to venture over the trip.

Damah Lady (by Mukaddamah) won four races but none beyond 1400m.

Luckygray was awarded the Railway Stakes on November 19.

It was deemed that first past the post, He’s Remarkable, impeded his progress.

The connections of He’s Remarkable will decided later this week if they will appeal the decision

Poletti says his galloper didn’t get off scot-free.

“He got quite a few cuts and bruises around his back fetlocks,” Poletti said.

“No infection set in but it took three or four days for the swelling to come down.

“He needed quite a lot of chiropractic work.

“He really wrenched his back muscles and his hindquarter muscles.

“I am very happy with him.

“The horse himself has thrived.

“He lost about 6kg in the race.

“He has put back on the weight he lost.”

W A Guineas winner King Saul didn’t draw much better in 10.

Ranger, the horse that received the most interference in the Railway, has drawn perfectly in barrier three.

Perhaps the racing gods are now smiling on him.

TABsportsbet have drifted Luckygray $2.60 to $2.80 and King Saul $4.80 to $5 while Ranger has tightened from $3.80 to $3.60.
