Lucky Raquie is a chance of missing the entire 2014 Spring Racing Carnival after she was sent back to the spelling paddock after being found with a fever at the end of last week.

Ryan revealed last Saturday that both Lucky Raquie and Rubick had shown signs of having elevated temperatures but, unlike Rubick, the issue may mean that Lucky Raquie completely misses the Spring Racing Carnival.

“We have lost her, she has gone to the paddock,” Ryan told Racing Ahead this morning.

“She had a temperature and we hung around with her too long.

“She might come back for the end of the spring or she might miss the spring altogether, we will just see how she does over the next month.”

Lucky Raquie made her racing debut with a third place finish in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick on October 5 and was sent to the spelling paddock before returning to the races with a disappointing sixth place finish in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 15.

The Encosta De Lago filly scored her maiden race win in the Listed Black Opal Stakes (1200m) at Canberra on March 9, but failed to fire in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 22, the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on April 12 and the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at the same venue a fortnight later.

Ryan said that Lucky Raquie failed to fire on the wet tracks during the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and he admitted that he was disappointed the three-year-old may not have the opportunity to run on the expected firm surfaces in Melbourne during the spring.

“All of her starts were on wet tracks, which she is no good on, except for the Black Opal where she won and when she ran third in the Breeders,” Ryan said.

“That is why we were sort of aiming towards Melbourne with her and looking for the dryer tracks down there.

“We will decide in a fortnight whether we abort the spring or go back in in Melbourne, but we will let her tell us that.”

Rubick has also been sent back to the spelling paddock, but is expected to return in time to contest the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on October 11 and the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day.
