Lucky Eighty Eight Posts Kyneton Cup Win

Lucky Eighty Eight has finally made his way into the winners circle by claiming victory in the $100,000 Kyneton Cup in Victoria today.

The Lucky Owners gelding burst from the pack down the final straight to win the race by one and a half lengths ahead of Sertorius and Pergola.

Jockey Michelle Payne was aboard the Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained Lucky Eighty Eight.

“He just was really going well on the corner,” Payne said.

“He took me there so easy, I knew that I had a good kick under me.”

Lucky Eighty Eight ran a disappointing ninth in the Herbert Power Stakes earlier this preparation, which is something Payne puts down to the 2,400 metre distance of the race.

“He felt spot on for the Herbert Power that day,” Payne said.

“I think that 1800 or 2000 sees him out.

“On his day he’s a great horse.

“He’s been good to me.

“It was just great to win the Cup today.”

This latest win has seen the six-year-old’s win percentage soar to 35% and his prize money reach close to $300,000.

Lucky Eighty Eight will now be sent out to the paddock for a well-deserved spell over the summer months.
