Lucas Cranach On Track For Melbourne Cup Run

Lucas Cranach is scheduled to make the long journey over to Australia from his current training base of England in the coming days.

The German stayer has received an overwhelming amount of support in Melbourne Cup markets since winning a Group 2 race in Hamburg.

Trainer Anthony Freedman said reports from his brother, Lee Freedman, in England were that Lucas Cranach was in prime form.

“He’s (Lee Freedman) very happy,” Anthony Freedman said.

“He feels he’s probably ready now, which was the plan.

“He’ll have a very easy week following the flight so then it’s just a case of deciding where we go.”

Freedman said a decision would be made concerning Lucas Cranach’s spring program after he arrives in Melbourne.

“He’ll probably have his first bit of fast work the Tuesday week after he arrives and we’ll start to get a bit of an idea of where we’re headed,” he said.

The trainer said that Lucas Cranach’s spring jockey was likely to be either Corey Brown or Craig Williams.

“There’s been a few of the boys that are keen to ride him and I know Corey’s (Brown) going to come down and have a ride on him in work and probably Craig Williams will probably do the same and then we’ll make a decision after they’ve both ridden him and see who suits the horse best and who’s available I guess,” Freedman said.
