Beaten Blue Diamond Stakes equal favourite Loving Gaby is still in contention for the 2019 Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 23.
Loving Gaby was sent out as the equal top pick alongside of the James Cummings trained Athiri at $4.80 and wasn’t disgrace in finishing sixth, two lengths from the winner Lyre, in the Group 1 $1.5m Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield last Saturday.
The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained Loving Gaby was caught wide in the early stages and was held up badly in the straight behind other runners but the stable has reported that the I Am Invincible filly has pulled up in good order and will head to Sydney for a Golden Slipper berth.
“She’s come through the race really well,” Eustace told racing.com.
“Physically she doesn’t look tucked up or tight from the run, she’s got a really good constitution.
“She didn’t have a lot of luck, she was a bit green, gaps came and then closed, she got a bump here and there so all in all we thought she certainly showed that she’s well up to the task.
“Sydney will definitely be the plan and hopefully we’re looking towards the Slipper and then maybe the Sires after that.”
Th Blue Diamond Stakes was only Loving Gaby’s second race start following her debut win in the Group 3 $160,000 Ladbrokes Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on February 2.
