Lord Esprit has been confirmed to line up amongst a talented field in Saturday’s A.R. Creswick Series Heat 5 (1100m) at Flemington, but trainer Andrew Noblet has been thrilled with the three-year-old’s condition and is confident he is up to the mark.

Lord Esprit debuted to racing for a close second in the Sungold Milk Maiden Plate (1200m) on March 2nd; progressing to a credible fourth in the Grand Hotel Frankston Maiden (1200m) on March 25th before beating a handy field to the line in the Cove Hotel Maiden Plate (1200m) most recently on April 6th.

Confident a brief freshen-up will play to the son of Bel Espirt’s favour on Saturday, Noblet told Racing Ahead he is pleased with the gelding’s condition and believes he will have no issue performing down the Flemington straight for the first time competitively.

“He looks really good in condition,” Noblet said.

“He’s had a little let-up after his last run, has come back in good order and worked well.

“The only query is he has never been down the straight before so that’s always a question mark, but other than that very happy with him.

“Looking at the horses that have come out of his first couple of races, a lot of them have won since, so it’s always good when that happens.

“When he jumps clean, he’s always up there. It’s always good down there when you haven’t be down the straight to have something to follow into the race, so if we can get that that would be good.”

All three of Lord Esprit’s starts have been over 1200m so-far but Noblet is confident he will have no problem attacking the line over 1100m in the A.R. Creswick Series Heat 5.

“It plays pretty tough and I think that will be far enough for him, especially first-up,” he said.

“We’ll get a line on him on Saturday and from there we might progress through the series and if not, we’ve got plenty of options with him.”

Ladbrokes is currently offering Lord Esprit at generous odds of $11 for success down the Flemington straight on Saturday.
