Eagle Farm trainer Barry Lockwood is set to roll the dice for Tumbler during the Sydney Spring Carnival after the mare scored her seventh win at the Sunshine Coast last Saturday.

A Sydney trip was always under consideration but Lockwood confirmed that he would head south with the rising six year after she scored a narrow first up win in a 1000m 2MW Handicap on Queensland Cup Day.

“I’ll give her another run somewhere but I’d like to take her to Sydney in the spring to get Black-Type,” Lockwood said.

“She’s won seven out of nine starts now so she deserves a chance at Black-Type.”

“I am going to go to Sydney and find the easiest black type race I can for her – I know she has the ability to win one.”

“But I think she has plenty of talent – she probably should have won seven from eight – and I am keen to head to Sydney with her.”

Lockwood is yet to select a specific race for Tumbler but will map out a Sydney Spring Carnival plan following her next race start in Queensland.

The lightly raced Tumbler produced the worst performance of her career at the start of the Brisbane Winter Carnival when Lockwood ran her out of her class and she failed to beat a runner home in the six horse field behind Music Magnate in the Group 2 $200,000 Ellyce Galvin Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm April 29.

“It was my blew running her at Eagle Farm that day because to be honest I knew she probably was never going to handle that track,” Lockwood said.

“I only ran her in the Victory Stakes because there were only six in it and she would have picked up Black-Type had she placed.”

Following the Victory Stakes Tumbler was sidelined after developing a stone bruise but showed that that she completely recovery with a stirring win last Saturday.

“We found out later she had a stone bruise which busted out the week after the Victory Stakes and then she had another one later on,” Lockwood said.

Jockey Brad Pengelly has forged a good association with Tumbler and has been aboard the mare four times for three wins, including last Saturday’s win at the Sunshine Coast.
