Lloyd Williams has made the decision to sell the state of the art Macedon Lodge property at Mount Macedon and will attempt to replicate the world class facilities on the Mornington Peninsula.

The Williams Team has had a great deal of success since relocating their entire racing operation to Macedon Lodge, which features an array of tracks, a horse swimming pool and a water walker, but Nick Williams told Racing Ahead this morning that they have made the tough decision to relocate in order to be closer to their overall family operation.

“It is a decision that we have reached with a somewhat heavy heart,” Williams said.

“What we are doing is planning for future generations going forward.

“Our families’ activities are centered around the Mornington Peninsula and in order to make sure the families’ interest is maintained, it seems like a logical decision that we should be centralizing our racing activities down there as well.

“We have some lovely properties down there and we have come to the view that we will put Macedon Lodge on the market and look to replicate what we have at Macedon Lodge down on the peninsula.”

Williams said that his father received an offer for Macedon Lodge from Chinese interests just over 12 months ago, which fell through, and he admitted that it will be a lengthy process before a buyer can be found for the property; with the property set to be sold through leading bloodstock agent William Inglis & Sons.

Wealthy horse racing owners like Sheik Fadah Al Thani, who owns 2011 Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden, has been linked to the property, but Williams said that he expects gallopers like Green Moon, Sea Moon and Fawkner will remain at Macedon Lodge until 2015.

“A transaction of this size doesn’t happen overnight and I think it will be a period of three to six months before we get to Inglis,”

“We will certainly make sure that through to the end of next year and even next year we will still be at Macedon Lodge.

“In the next few months we will start work down at the peninsula to make sure that we have a smooth transition.”

Melbourne Cup winners Efficient (2007) and Green Moon (2012) were both prepared at Macedon Lodge by the Williams team while Ethereal, who completed the Melbourne Cup/Caulfield Cup double in 2001, was trained at the facility when he was based in Australia.
