Champion trainer Peter Moody has lost his two best mares in the same year, with Lights Of Heaven following former stablemate Black Caviar into retirement and a career at stud.

While not in the same league as Australia’s undefeated superstar sprinter, Lights Of Heaven carved a successful career of her own.

The five-year-old won eight of 25 starts including the Group 1 Australasian Oaks as a three-year-old and the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup, Group 2 Brisbane Cup and Group 2 Hollindale Stakes in open grade.

Perhaps her greatest performance came last spring when she took on a star-studded Caulfield Cup line up and claimed third-place honours.

Moody told TVN there was nothing physically wrong with the winner of $1.5 million in prizemoney but said she has nothing left to prove as a racehorse.

“She is a Group 1 winning filly, she’s done a hell of a good job, She was third in a Caulfield Cup and ran in a Melbourne Cup, but didn’t run the trip,” Moody said.

“She has just been a bloody good mare. She certainly would have been the flag bearer in any stable, mine included, is she didn’t have Black Caviar in the stable.”
