Trainer Ken Keys has revealed that Rich Enuff could start his 2015 Melbourne Festival Of Racing campaign in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on October 21 or the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield a week later.

Rich Enuff was sent to the spelling paddock after he finished a disappointing seventh in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on November 1, but has now started pre-training at Woodside Park Stud ahead of his return to the Keys stable to begin preparations for his autumn campaign.

The Written Tycoon colt was far from disgraced when a tough second behind Shooting To Win in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), but Keys is unsure whether the mile is the best distance for the three-year-old and may keep his star galloper to sprinting events like the Oakleigh Plate and the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes.

“I imagine he’ll be kept to sprints without locking it in, obviously there’s a bit of water to go under the bridge yet but that’s what we’re leaning to,” Keys told Racing.com

“One of the owners is away and he’s not back until next week and when he’s back we’ll sit down and have a chat about exactly what sort of races we go to.

“I have a feeling as we go into the preparation that he’ll be looking for a bit further, but whether he gets to the mile again I don’t know.”

Rich Enuff made his racing debut with a close third behind Bullpit in the Friends Of Epworth Handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley on March 29 and he started his 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a an impressive win in the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at the same venue on August 23.

The talented colt proved that win was no fluke when he recorded another impressive victory in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 13 and he stamped himself as a clear favourite for the Caulfield Guineas with a dominant win in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) on September 28.

Rich Enuff started the Caulfield Guineas as an odds-on favourite, but he had a tough run in transit and was nailed on the line by Shooting To Win and the Caulfield Guineas run appeared to take it out of the three-year-old and he produced a flat performance in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

A share in the stallion prospect was sold to Woodside Park at the end of his 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign and he will alongside the likes of his sire Written Tycoon, Foreplay and Zoustar when he finishes his racing career.
